1827 – The Chiefs agree on five laws, or Kanawai prohibiting murder, theft, rum selling, prostitution, and gambling.

1941 – Japanese planes stage a surprise attack on the U.S. 7th Fleet berthed at Puʻuloa (Pearl Harbor).  2500 lives are lost.
